RED VELVET LATTE AT HOME

When you think of red velvet cake, what do you think of? I think of tea and cake time in a royal garden in 19th century England. Or maybe I’m thinking of Alice in Wonderland. So, I guess what I’m trying to say is that red velvet cake reminds me of Alice in Wonderland! Now that you have that nugget of information, I’m going to show you how you can make your own red velvet latte at home! So, if you’re like me you can drink your red velvet latte and pretend you are in a 19th century England country side with Alice!

If I haven’t lost you yet, you’ll need cocoa powder, freshly brewed coffee, beet juice and almond milk. If you’d like to make it fancy, top it off with whipped cream and chocolate sprinkles. To get the red color, this recipe calls for beet juice. It makes the gorgeous red color of red velvet we’re looking for. It has a subtle slightly earthy sweet taste. Feel free to add 1/4 of a teaspoon of sugar if you’d like yours to be sweetened more.

To begin, brew a strong pot of coffee and reserve 1/4 cup. Next, you’ll want to warm the milk in a small saucepan. To avoid burning the milk, be sure to stir constantly while it’s warming.

In a large heat-safe glass, add the cocoa powder and beet juice. Pour the reserved coffee and warmed milk. Stir until all ingredients are combined. Garnish with whipped cream if desired. Ta-da! You’re all done!
